2023 Summer Internship

Company Background:

Thompson, Siegel & Walmsley (“TSW”) is a prominent investment management firm located in Richmond, VA. TSW provides value-oriented investment advisory and management services in the areas of domestic equity, international equity, long/short equity and fixed income securities through a range of market capitalization strategies and a variety of investment vehicles to institutions, high-net-worth individuals and retail channels.

Internship Program Details:

  • Start:         6/05/23
  • End:           8/04/23
  • Pay:           Competitive pay will be provided
  • Location:   Richmond, VA -- Required in-person Tuesday-Thursday

Primary Responsibilities:

Candidates will work with investment professionals on the domestic and international equities teams. Analysts on these teams spend their time researching public companies: evaluating the business models, financial strength, growth potential and competitive positioning to determine if the stock, given its current price, could generate an acceptable return over 2-4 years. Interns will support the analysts in their research.

Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • - Reading and summarizing financial reports
  • - Conducting independent research on industries and companies
  • - Financial modeling
  • - Updating analysts on current events related to portfolio companies

Minimum Candidate Requirements:

We are seeking two to three sophomore or junior-year students who are intellectually curious and eager to learn about value investing. While experience with finance, accounting and economics is a plus, we are more interested in general analytical capability and an ability to combine qualitative and quantitative data to make reasoned conclusions. Passion for learning is a must.

Goal of the Program:

We believe an internship at TSW is a unique and exciting opportunity. You will develop an understanding of the capital markets and a variety of industries and companies and learn how to value a company based on fundamental analysis. You will gain valuable experience working alongside professional investors who are allocating billions of dollars of investor capital.
