Portfolio Manager - Strategic Advisory


Primary Responsibility

The Portfolio Manager’s primary responsibility is to develop and service private client relationships as well as OCIO mandates for TSW Strategic Advisory. Due to the complex nature of our clients’ needs, the Portfolio Manager must demonstrate an advanced understanding of a broad range of investment concepts and strategies related to asset management.

A successful candidate should manage and serve existing client relationships and should possess an entrepreneurial spirit toward pursuing new business opportunities with decision makers and the approach to attract them to TSW. The traits necessary for success include passion, strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, discipline, confidence, open-mindedness, creativity, and community. The goal is to develop the trust necessary to ensure deep, lasting client relationships and to preserve the cultural integrity of the firm. 

Specific Responsibilities include, but are not confined to:

Analysis and Communications:                                                                               

  • - Contribute to the development of client presentations, marketing pieces and on-going communication materials.
  • - Contribute to the review and analysis of client and prospect portfolios and financial planning needs.
  • - Contribute to the analysis, monitoring and review of various asset classes and investment strategies including any to be developed.
  • - Work closely with portfolio management teams to effectively represent them in front of clients.
  • - Assist in the preparation of commentary for client and consultant quarterly reporting and ad hoc requests.

Business Development:                                                                                                          

  • - Actively engage with prospective clients to identify and develop opportunities.
  • - Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities and follow disciplined sales approach to advancing opportunities.
  • - Maintain record-keeping through CRM system regarding pipeline, activities, and client contact information.
  • - Lead formal presentations, effectively integrating colleagues and other resources as needed.
  • - Play major role in firm’s RFP responses.
  • - Assist in strategies to deepen existing client relationships and next generation education.

Client Service & Relationship Management:                                                                                                   

  • - Management of client relationships in coordination with other teammates
  • - Serve as an expert for clients and their consultants – requires articulating our investment process, portfolio strategy and positioning, purchases and sales, performance attribution analysis, performance results relative to peers and benchmark and market outlook.

Teamwork:

  • - Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and ensure that the customer first principle is embedded into all procedures and processes.
  • - Develop strong working relationship with and understanding of all internal departments: Portfolio Management & Research, Sales & Marketing, Compliance, Operations, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

  • - College degree plus five years of experience in the investment management or financial services industry.
  • - Strong understanding and comprehension of capital markets, investment management and wealth planning.
  • - Excellent written and presentation skills.
  • - Ability to operate independently with a high level of direct responsibility.
  • - Highly motivated and self-starter capable of managing long-term relationships and initiating new client relationships.

Preferred Licensing & Designations:

  • - CAIA, CFA, CFP, or CMT
  • - Series 7, 63 and 65, or 66, or to be obtained within 90 days of employment.
